A vessel’s skipper ought to do a routine check of rigging from deck level before casting off. And, if you’re the racing type, good organisation would see a crew member checking the rig for wear and tear before and after each event – even at deck level it’s easy to spot a loose shackle.
Regardless of how efficiently you run your boat, annual rigging inspections by a qualified rigger are a must, both above and below deck. Greg will tune your rigging in accordance with the way you use your boat and the wind conditions under which your boat usually sails.
Wire rigging needs to be replaced whenever a failure is noted, or every ten years, while rod rigging should be replaced or re-headed every 7-8 years. Turnbuckles will need to be replaced every ten to twelve years.
You can ensure your rigging is taken care of by clicking ‘add as a preferred supplier’.
From your maintenance list, link the relevant items to us. Then, when inspection or replacement is due, we’ll be reminded by BoatM8 and can make arrangements with you to complete the job. |
