 Ace Fibreglass Supplies

Welcome to Ace Fibreglass Supplies
We are dedicated to serving our customers both with quality products and helpful information.
Safety first:
Products used in the Reinforced Plastics Industry (RPI) – commonly known as fibreglass and resins – are dangerous and can cause harm if correct safety precautions are not taken.
Please heed all warnings on product labels, and do not smoke or use open flames around any RPI product.
Please ensure when using RPI products you wear safety wrap around goggles, a respirator to extract organic chemicals and dusts, a hair net, protective gloves and overalls.
Some chemicals produce an exothermic reaction (which means they generate heat) and in some circumstances can produce instantaneous combustion. It’s a good idea to keep a suitable fire extinguisher and a bucket of water nearby when using RPI products.
Finally, ask for a Material Safety Data Sheet on products you are using. This will provide information on the following:
- chemical identification
- hazardous ingredients
- physical data
- fire and explosion data
- health hazard data
- reactivity data
- spill or leak procedures
- special protection information
- special precautions
If poisoning does occur, follow any first aid directions on the product label, refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet for hazardous ingredients and health hazard data, and phone a doctor or the poisons information centre on 131126.
We stock the following resins:
- General purpose
- Epoxy
- Surfboard
- Clear casting
- Catalyst
- Tooling gel coat
- Flow coat
Pigment
Influence the colour you see, and how that colour will look in years to come, by adding pigment to a neutral gel coat or flow coat.
For clean up, we stockacetone and MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone).
Resin additives include: wax in styrene and styrene monomer.
Mould release:wax and PVA
Fibre reinforcements:
Chopped strand matt (fibreglass matt)
The most common of glass reinforcements, chopped strand matt has strands of glass of similar lengths arranged in a random compressed order to provide strength when combined with resin. The glass matt is available in different densities, the most common being, 300, 450 and 600 grams per square metre.
Carbon fibre
Carbon fibre is one of the more expensive reinforcement fabrics used in the reinforced plastics industries. It provides an excellent weight to strength ratio and is used in specialised fields such as custom racing boats and paddle faces. It is rarely used for general-purpose repairs.
Bi-axial
Bi-Axial is a cloth that is of different weights per square metre and as the name suggests has two (bi) axils of fabric through it. These generally run at 45 degrees to each other and provide an extremely strong and rigid plane. This product has become a preferred product over woven rovings as a strengthening layer.
Dynel
Is a non-glass reinforcing fabric. It is used to help provide a smooth reinforced finish on timber boats when used with Epoxy resin. It is used principally as a finishing layer, or a skin layer (just behind the gelcoat) for extra strength without an unpleasant pattern “show through”. Dynel conforms more easily to compound curves than fibreglass.
Woven roving
Woven roving uses continuous strands of glass grouped together and woven through each other in a checked pattern. It also comes in a variety of weights per square metre, but is becoming less popular in the reinforced plastics industry. The product provides a relatively smooth finish and has recently seen Bi-axial fabric as a challenger for providing a high strength layer in laminations.
Tissue
Is an extremely light and thin fabric generally used in the manufacture of moulds. It is generally used as a barrier to help prevent chopped strand matt, or chopped rovings from imprinting the tooling gel-coat used in the manufacture of a mould. It is also used to help provide a smoother texture on the topside of a lamination.
Core mat
Is a highly resin absorbent product used to provide strength to moulds and projects without the need to use vast layers of glass-reinforcements. The product is extremely lightweight, but absorbs a high percentage of resin to achieve an excellent weight to strength ratio. This feature makes this product ideal to reinforce light panels against the occasional occurrence of weight stress.
We also stock fillers: Aerosol, Micro balloons, Talc, Q-cells and Cab-o-sil M-5.
